Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the Northwest Business Environment Awards 2010?
- It is region's most prestigious awards scheme that recognises the achievements of businesses, both large and small, which have excelled in their environmental performance. By creating a platform to celebrate exemplars of environmental business excellence, the awards aim to keep green issues at the fore as well as encouraging others to put the environment at the heart of their success.
- What are the award categories?
- This year there are six specific areas of excellence to award – Environmental Innovation, Built Environment, Combating Climate Change, Best Environmental Practice, Media and Communications and Environmental Leadership. Find out more in the categories section of this website.
- Who can enter?
- The Northwest Business Environment Awards 2010 is open to any business, large or small, located in England's Northwest (Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire).
- Is there a fee to enter?
- No, the awards are free to enter.
- Why should we enter?
- Entering the Northwest Business Environment Awards 2010 is your chance to become part of a select and exclusive hall-of-fame. Becoming a Northwest green hero is an opportunity to demonstrate your environmental and business credentials to decision makers, key influencers and potential customers as well as boosting staff morale. Once again this year's Northwest Business Environment Awards media partner is Northwest Business Insider Magazine. This partnership is an opportunity for companies to benefit from a high profile in the region's leading business publication. The awards are your chance to be rewarded and congratulated on your environmental credentials and secure a green competitive edge.
- What are the judges looking for?
- The judges are looking for businesses that have made the environment part of their success. The judges will be looking for tangible results and evidence that the approach taken has delivered positive benefits for the company. If the company has delivered a project for a client then the judges will be interested in the client's response and feedback. The judges are particularly interested in what has been achieved to date and if similar work or actions are planned in the future.
- If I've already won or been shortlisted a Northwest Business Environment Award can I enter again?
- Yes, you can re-enter the awards with an update or further development on your business practices. Companies cannot win for a second time for the same project or activities.
- How are the awards financed?
- The event is run on a not-for-profit basis and is financed through sponsorship contributions. This year we are grateful for the support of the Northwest Regional Development Agency and all our sponsors. The event is hosted by the region's environmental business support programme, ENWORKS.
- Who are the judges?
- You will find this information about this year's juding panels for each award category on the 'Judges' page.
- What happens if we are shortlisted?
- A member of the Northwest Business Environment Awards 2010 team will contact you to confirm that you have been placed on the shortlist to win an award, by the end of July 2010. In due course, a member of the Awards communications team will also be in touch and you will also be invited to book places to attend the awards ceremony with your business colleagues, clients and partners. The shortlists are usually announced shortly before the awards ceremony in the autumn, and a full list is published online after the winners have been announced.
- What happens if we win?
- If you are a winner, you will receive one of our 'Green Hero' trophies at the awards ceremony on 19 October at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester. What follows is a wealth of PR and marketing opportunities, which could help your business reach new customers and markets - for example, filming on site, photography, press releases, online promotion and media interviews.
- What happens if none of the entries meet the required entry criteria?
- If the judges for an award category decide that none of the entries meet the required entry standards, based on the published criteria, no award will be presented. This applies to both the main award and runner-up prizes in each category, where applicable. The judging panel may, however, award one or more of the applicants with a commendation in recognition of their contributions, in place of the full award.
